2nd Runway for San Javier airport in Murcia, Spain

At the moment civil flights at San Javier airport in Murcia are only allowed to land and take off from 15.00 hours because the control tower and the landing strip are used during the morning by the Spanish air force.

Now it seems at long last San Javier will get a second runway up and running as soon as March 2009 according to an announcement by Rafael Gonzolez, the governments representative in Murcia

“The second landing strip will be working full time before the high summer season,” he promised.

“Civil flights will be available in the mornings as well, as each landing strip will be used for different purposes – civil flights and military flights.”

The new runway will be used by the air force whilst the old one will be used for civil flights.

This should prove a positive boost to the property market in the area as more capacity will no doubt lead to more and cheaper flights to this popular region of Spain
