Your place in the Sun, Health advice

While visiting countries which have a much hotter climate than we are use to, it is worth taking just a few measures to reduce the chances of the odd funny tummy, or that dreaded sun burn.

Here are just a few tips, preventative and also advice if just a little too late. Introduce yourself a little at a time to the sun. Please remember that the sun also reflects off water, so could also add to sun burn. Should you experience red tender skin, blisters, fever and chills or nausea, you could try taking a cool bath or shower. Please DO NOT apply Vaseline or any lidocaine to your skin. So please always use a high factor sun cream.

The combination of sun and change of diet can sometimes cause an upset tummy. So please only drink bottled water on your travels. It would be advisable to take with you the appropriate medication, just in case.

Spending too long in the water can occasionally cause ear problems. This only occurs when too much water stays in the ear canal. Please seek medical advice if experience itchy ears, loss of hearing, ear ache without fever. The cure could mean having to stay out of water for the duration of your holiday.

Dehydration can also be a big problem when not accustom to extreme temperatures or change of diet, please remember we lose a lot of minerals in the heat. It would be worth taking a few powders with you on your travels, these are available at most chemists. Dehydration is very nasty and can cause upset tummies, vomiting, diarrhoea, tummy ache, fever and chills. It can also be quite fatal in the young and elderly.

Please if you ever experience any of the above or uncertain of what treatment is required always seek medical assistance.
