Croatia is a great place to enjoy an active lifestyle, with plenty of activities to choose from as follows;
Hiking and Walking. Croatia is perfectly suited for walkers, and there are numerous interesting walks to be had. The most picturesque ones tend to be those in the National Parks, such as the Plitvice Lakes and on the islands of Brijuni and Mljet. For more strenuous hiking head to Mount Biokovo (above Makarska) and the Velebit mountains (northern Dalmatia).
Skiing. Croatian skiing facilities cannot compare with those in nearby Slovenia, Austria and Italy. So Croatia Is not recommended as a skiing holiday. However, if you're in the country during the ski season, then head to Bjelolasica www.bjelolasica.hr where the Croatian Olympic centre is located. Another popular skiing location is just north of Zagreb at Mount Sljeme www.sljeme.hr/index.php?s=medv&l=en.
Diving. With 3700 miles of coast and over 1000 islands, there are many opportunities to engage in diving in the Adriatic Sea. The coastline, many coves, and islands of Croatia are beautiful. Try the ethereal Blue Grotto and explore the shipwrecks sunk off the island of Vis, Croatia’s most remote inhabited island. You will need a diving permit to dive in Croatia. There are also some restrictions on where you can and cannot dive. See Pro Diving Croatia www.diving.hr for more information.
Kayaking. White-water and sea kayaking can be experienced in Croatia.It is recommended that you join an official agency tour and there are variety of different itineraries to choose from from. See Adriatic Kayak Tours www.adriatickayaktours.com.
Sailing. The Croatian coastline is perfect for sailing holidays. With so many islands and ports, you can stop as many times as you like or sail for as long as you wish. With over 1,000 islands, sailing holidays can provide an excellent way of seeing some of the smaller uninhabited islands that would otherwise be difficult to visit with scheduled ferry lines.
Golf. Golf is not very developed at the moment in Croatia with only a couple of courses.
Festivals. Visit Dubrovnik Summer Festival, which takes place each summer, from mid July to late August, featuring various cultural events plus open-air evening performances of theatre, jazz and classical music. Zagreb and Split also have summer festivals.
