Cyprus does not offer the lowest prices for the overseas property owner, but surely offers one of the best all round destinations by bringing together some of the best beaches, culture and history with modern day  infrastructure and exellent ameanities.

Cyprus is the largest island in the eastern Mediterranean. It has a typical Mediterranean climate but its closeness to southwest Asia makes it one of the hottest parts of the Mediterranean. Cyprus has dreamy sands, majestic peaks in the Troodos mountains and pine covered slopes cut by ice cold streams. There is also plenty of culture and history. Visit the mountain top monastery Kykkos, and see the famous icon, Elousa, said to have been painted by St Luke the Evangelist. At the ancient theatre at Kourion you can almost hear the roars of the crowds as gladiators fight to the end.

Sports and Activities in Cyprus

• Golf. Cyprus may be a newcomer in the golf market but it is fast becoming a favourite with many travellers due to an improvement in facilities and, of course, its superb all-year round climate. The island now boasts three courses following the opening of Aphrodite Hills, without doubt the jewel in the Cyprus golfing crown.

Aphrodite Golf Club www.aphroditehills.com Aphrodire is a luxurious and casually elegant resort near Paphos. 18-hole Championship course Handicap certificate required; max 28 for men, 36 for Ladies. Carved out of groves of carob and olive trees on two high plateaux divided by a ravine, the course overlooks the Mediterranean with all but a few holes enjoying superb sea views

Secret Valley Golf Club www.cyprusgolf.com/sv Secret Valley is located 18 km east of Paphos and 49 km west from Limassol. 18 hole championship standard course Yardage 6120 m Par 72.  Visitors Handicap certificate required (Max 28 for Men and 36 for Ladies). This prestigious course lies in a scenic valley with beautiful natural rock formations all around and large trees adding maturity to a relatively new course.

Tsada Golf Course www.cyprusgolf.com/tsada This course is located 15 km north-east from the city of Paphos. Set in the grounds of a 12th century monastery which lies in a gentle picturesque valley 550m above sea level. The course offers superb variety as no two  holes are the same and is suitable for players of all abilities. The faiways are lined with thousands of trees & scattered with sand bunkers, the undulating greens have perfect putting surfaces.

Diving. Around Cape Gkreko, the coastline becomes indented with rocky coves and small sandy beaches, so it is possible to enjoy snorkelling and scuba-diving. The Cyprus Federation of Underwater Activities email: cypf00@cmas.org telephone (22) 754 647 and Cydive www.cydive.com can provide information.

Skiing. The centre of interest for Cyprus skiing is the Troodos Skiing Centre. The Cyprus Ski Club runs and maintains the facilities. Obviously, the small size of the island, coupled with the fact that snow rarely occurs below 4,000 feet, means that Troodos is not Courchevel, Aspen, or Stowe. The resort would seem really tiny compared to the traditional destination resorts of the west; four T-bar lifts, X trails, and a tiny 600-foot vertical drop. But it offers a very welcome skiing oasis. The resort is divided into two major parts that are interconnected, each served by two lifts.

Depending on the weather the season usually starts sometime in January and usually lasts through the end of March, though in some rare occasions it has lasted well into April. Unfortunately, there are quite frequent droughts, and sometimes the season is short, in 1997 the lifts were open only between early February and early March.

Watersports. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy watersports such as, windsurfing and paragliding

Hiking.  Hike through the many unspoilt areas in Cyprus. Recommended nature trails include Atalante, Kaledonia and Persephone in the Troodos area and Aphrodite and Adonis in the Akamas area, with other trails in the forests of Machairas and Limassol.

• Feast of Kataklysmos (the Greek Orthodox Whitsun). Although celebrated throughout Cyprus, there is special enthusiasm in Larnaca, where crowds throng the shore for watersports, singing, dancing, eating and drinking.

• Limassol Wine Festival. In September, enjoy free wine during Limassol’s wine festival. During the pre-Lenten Carnival, Limassol also bursts into celebration, with bands, gaily decorated floats and dancing.

Beaches in Cyprus

Cyprus offers a myriad of sandy beaches, rocky inlets and secluded along its 800km of coastline. The east coast has arguably the island’s best beaches and most enticing coves. Larnaca boasts a long sandy crescent while Ayia Napa’s beach extends for hundreds of metres and is very popular. The west coast has inviting sands, especially around Coral Bay and the Akamas Peninsula. Paphos offers plenty in the way of beach activities, including jet-skiing and diving to water-skiing and paragliding.

Protaras Beaches

Fig Tree Bay. The most popular beach within Protaras Beach area. The beach has fine-grained sand, the sea is clear. There are water sports available such as water-skiing and paragliding. Many tourists, however, find it difficult to spot the beach itself, as it is not signed from the inland bypass road, lined by a chain of restaurants. Only the hotels are indicated.

Protaras Beach. One of the most popular of the beaches in the Protaras resort. It is a long sandy beach which has a variety of water sports. There are lots of nice spots along the beach that can be reached by access roads from the main Protaras high street.

Louma Beach. The northern extension of Protaras, called Pernera is the busy centre. The 400 m curving strand of the beach is protected by an artificial bay. The beach has tree-shade, soft sand and clean water. Water sports are provided by Baywater Water Sports and you can enjoy banana tube rides, paragliding, water-skiing lessons, or jet ski.

Green Bay Beach. To avoid the crowds, visit this beach. Although it is not signed clearly, the beach offers a good swimming spot at the far southern end of the beach strip. It consists of the two parts. The north side provides the umbrellas and loungers to rent and in the southern part one can find some little sandstone platforms.

Skoutari Beach. This beach comprises 50 m of hard-packed sand, rocks and cliffs falling apart. The bay is sheltered and there is an option of snorkeling here.

Mouzuora Beach. A small and popular beach with the locals. The beach is a 100 m length narrow sand strip. Not suitable for non-swimmers or children, as the sand decreases quite steeply into the water.

Limassol Beaches

Ladies' Mile. The beautiful Ladies Mile beach is located near the New Limassol Port and is only a 10-15 minute drive from Limassol Town centre. There is a golden sandy beach which goes on for miles, with shallow and clear water. Watersports are available or if you prefer you can find some peace and quiet here. Mile beach is one of the most popular windsurfing spots on the island due to its flat shallow water.

Governor's Beach. Governor's Beach is located midway between Larnaca and Limassol. It has a sandy beach and shallow crystal water making it ideal for families with children. Governor's Beach also offers the spectacular white rocks area for those who like snorkeling, boating, fishing.

Pissouri Beach. This beach is located in the beautiful village of Pissouri. Its waters are clean, warm and safe to swim in with a beautiful sandy, shingle beach. During the summer there are a number of water sports facilities and there is also a small diving school. The beach is rarely overcrowded, except for Sundays.

Curium Beach. The sea at Curium beach is rough and wild. The ancient Roman Curium Amphitheatre, which has been rebuilt, is directly above the Curium beach, and you may see hand-gliders riding above the Curium cliffs. This beach is also a popular sailing spot but can get overcrowded with swimmers.

Kourion Beach. Located 20 km west of Limassol a vast, curving beach overlooked by the stunning 2nd century AD amphitheatre.

Larnaca Beaches.

Dasoudi Beach. Great for water sports, with all the usual beach facilities.

McKenzie Beach. Less than a five minute drive from Larnaca airport, Mckenzie Beach is well known for its beautiful white sandy beach. Here you can enjoy the water sports facilities, including scuba diving.
