Value added taxes in Brazil

Like the UK Brazil imposes a form of VAT on all sales made to individuals.  This needs to be borne in mind when calculating the cost of fees, expenditures and items bought in Brazil.

Brazil imposes a tax on the circulation of merchandise and on transportation and communication services (ICMS), which is similar to value added taxes in other countries. A general rate of 18% applies, with specific rates for a number of goods (for example, 25% for luxury goods).
