St Lucia is a relatively safe destination in which to travel. The majority of the locals or people native to the island are very hospitable, friendly and helpful. In recent years crime in St Lucia has been increasing. Try to avoid showing any valuables or large sums of money you may be carrying on your person. Try, where possible, to travel in a group.

 

Women travelling in St Lucia may be subject to some harassment by local men. The majority of this is harmless and is best dealt with by using a firm ‘No thank you’ response. If however you do find yourself in a position that makes you feel unsafe contact the local police station.

Violent crime is a problem within local communities, and can sometimes affect tourists.  Crimes include muggings, and thefts from hotels, yachts or holiday homes.

 

The St Lucian authorities are working with the tourism industry to maintain a safe environment for visitors.

There are severe penalties for all drug offences.  There has been a marked increase in British nationals arrested for trafficking of cocaine, with eight arrests in November 2006.  Pack all luggage yourself and do not carry anything through customs for anyone else.

You should be aware that it is an offence for anyone, including children, to dress in camouflage clothing.

Certain homosexual acts are illegal under Saint Lucian laws.
