Altea in Costa Blanca has six kilometres of pebble beaches. Next to the Altea old town are the two main beaches which are both a mixture of sand and pebbles, Playa la Roda, and the most popular beach Playa de Cap Blanch is located to the south of the Altea town and stretches to the next resort along the Costa Blanca coast of Alfas del Pi. The main areas of activity in Altea town are the main shopping street of Avenida del Rey Jaime I and the attractive palm fringed seafront esplanade of Passeig Maritimo which has plenty of bars and restaurants yet never becomes over run with tourists
Other beaches are at Playa de Cap Negret which is a shingled beach to the north of Altea town. This beach ends in a small cove called the 'Cala del Soio', distinctive for its black pebbles. L'Olla is another popular pebble beach opposite a small island of the same name. At the northern end of Altea Bay is at 'Mascarat point' where you'll find the shingled coves of La Barreta, La Solsida and La Galera.
Altea has high quality water sports centres where activities include diving, sailing, windsurfing, fishing, water skiing and local boat cruises. Divers can explore the local waters which provide a treasure trove of marine life and rock formations, the sea is clean and visibility often exceeds 20 metres.
At the Luis Campomanes harbour are magnificent cruisers and yachts and there are plans to expand this already impressive harbour into what the locals hope will be one of the best sports marinas in the Mediterranean. The Two Hundred Milles sailing event to Ibiza starts and finishes at Altea.
