Estartit has one of the biggest and best sandy beaches on the Costa Brava. Mas Pinell is the main beach at 3 km long of fine sand. Facilities here include, bars, restaurants, access for wheelchairs, and the beach is cleaned regularly. The smaller Estartit beach is just under one km long and has a seafront promenade with all the usual tourist facilities. The modern marina along side the fishing port is a pleasant place to enjoy an al fresco drink or a meal in the shade of one of the many canopied outdoor terraces. Either side of Estartit resort, the rugged Costa Brava coastline offers a wealth of delightful rocky coves to explore. Watersports are available at the yacht marina and beaches and include sailing, fishing, diving, windsurfing, water skiing and jet skiing.
One of Estartit's greatest assets is The Medes Islands. The archipelago of seven islets was once the hideout of pirates who plagued the Mediterranean coastline for centuries. The islands are one and a half km off the beach and are at the centre of one of the most important marine reserves in the whole of the Mediterranean. Thousands of plant and animal species thrive on the islands and underwater in this national reserve. Divers are delighted by some extraordinary sights including shoals of thousands of glimmering fish and carpets of coral. There are numerous diving clubs and schools in the area to cater for beginners and experienced divers alike. Glass bottomed boats tour the islands regularly from Estartit.
Hikers and horse riders will enjoy exploring the swampy plain of the River Ter, via the series of sandy paths which crisscross this lush, fertile area. Alternatively there are the major attractions of Water World and Marineland within easy reach. Water World is a water park near Lloret de Mar, and Marineland, just south of Blanes, has dolphin, sea lion and parrot shows, water slides, a reptile house, children's zoo and boating lake.
