About Fethiye

Fethiye is in a bay within Fethiye Gulf where both large and small islands are scattered. The rear of the bay is surrounded by pine forests. Fethiye is home to several remarkable ancient sites, including the rock tombs dating from the 4th century BC carved in the hillside above the town, and the impressive Roman amphitheatre beside the harbour. Fethiye retains a sense of its old-fashioned rural character, with herds of goats and sheep blocking the roads on market days, the smell of herbs and spices in the air, and the biggest bazaar in the area.

There is a good selection of restaurants on the harbour front and in the narrow streets of the old town. There are numerous unspoiled rocky coves and beaches, offshore islands, cliffs and pine-covered mountains around Fethiye to enjoy. Gulets (sturdy wooden yachts) can be hired in the harbour for day trips around the coastal waters. The resort of Oludeniz is just 25 minutes away by dolmus (mini bus) and has a number of watersports available.

Fethiye Climate

Fethiye has a typical Mediterranean climate, which is hot and dry during the summer and warm and rainy during winters. Temperatures often rise above 30ºC in July and August and are generally over 10ºC during winter. Water temperatures do not fall below 16ºC.
