Golden Sands is located in a picturesque and environmentally clean bay in the North part of the Black Sea coast. Golden Sands is the largest resort on the North Black Sea coast and is situated 19 km north-east of Varna and 490 km from Sofia. Golden Sands has breathtaking scenary, superb picturesque beaches, clean sea, sun and mineral springs. The Golden Sands beach strip is 3.5 km long and up to 100 m wide. A constant temperature of about 27°C throughout the summer season makes it a wonderful place for a summer holiday. Almost the entire coast along the resort falls within the Zlatni Pyasatsi natural park. The Frengenskoto Plato (Frengen Plateau) limestone structure sits above the resort. The area is famous for the purest sand on the Black Sea coast and has abundant trees and bushes, with mineral water springs. Together with the wonderful wood which borders the Frangen Plateau this makes Golden Sands one of the pearls of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
The resort has a casino, a number of bars, a mini-golf playground, horse-carriages, water slides, good conditions and equipment for all kinds of watersports.
The Alaja rock monastery is only a few km from Golden Sands. Alaja is one of the best preserved rock monasteries and has an interesting history. Nowadays only a small part of the frescoes are preserved, the monastery is declared a cultural sight and houses a small museum. Also about 30 km away is the town of Balchik with its beautiful palace and botanic garden.
