Scuba divers can visit the Zenobia, a passenger ferry which sank in 1983 and is now rated as one of the world’s top ten wrecks. The Larnaca nightlife is interesting and cultural life is rich with many events organized by the town's municipality almost daily.
Larnaca’s main tourist attraction is the nearby mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke, which draws pilgrims from across the Moslem world. The mosque is located next to a salt-lake southwest of the city and both can be visited in a day-trip. Within walking distance of Larnaca town centre is the modern District Museum, which contains an interesting collection of antiquities found in the Larnaca area, dating from the Neolithic to the Roman periods. To the northwest of Larnaca are some of the ruins of ancient Kition, featuring the remains of five temples dating back to the 13th century BC, of particular interest is the Phoenician Temple of Astarte. Visit Choirokoitia which sis about 32 km from Larnaca, where archaeological excavations have revealed one of the oldest Neolithic sites on Cyprus, dating to 7,000 BC. Stavrovouni Monastery is perched on top of a solitary mountain 40 km from Larnaca and is the oldest monastery in Cyprus.
