Bom Sucesso is probably the first ‘designer resort’ in Europe if not the world. Over 20 of Europe’s most renowned architects have worked on the designs of the individual houses and villas (the site has no apartments), in each case taking account of the terrain, the views and the neighbouring units. The master plan has always been to create a resort where none of the houses are overlooked and each view down the hill towards the lagoon and the sea was preserved.
It is difficult to convey the effect adequately in words. Careful use of the contours of the land with homes built into the hill in such a way as to present a single storey in one direction with 2 storeys in the other means that each view down the hillside is not interrupted or disturbed by high-rise blocks. The most one sees when looking towards the lagoon is the roofs of the next group of houses.
This sympathetic design coupled with the low land use density – a mere 7% build density has been permitted – has retained the natural landscape and there is a complete absence of any building more than 2 storeys high.
Situated near the medieval town of Óbidos, on the banks of the Lagoon, Bom Sucesso – Design Resort, Leisure Golf & SPA represents the most ambitious project ever planned for a luxury tourist resort.
Built over an area covering 1 576 210 sqm, Bom Sucesso will contain 601 houses – both villas and townhouses – a hotel with a Spa, an 18 hole Championship golf course, an unparalleled range of facilities and a large ecological reserve. In addition, the site has its own beach area with regular transfers from the development and an unrivalled fish restaurant right on the beach.
It was developed as a model of excellence, with contemporary architecture as the cornerstone of its concept strategy. A group of highly qualified architects, both Portuguese and foreign, developed an innovative concept; contemporary architecture blended into the landscape.
Twenty three Masters of Contemporary Architecture joined forces in order to create Bom Sucesso, on a single property but without neglecting the specificities of each project area.
The architects adhered to a set of rules that provide the formal unity of the project, but which simultaneously enabled them to follow their own original and specific objectives. Most important among these rules and vital for the originality of the resort, was that all rooftops should be covered in greenery and any walls should either be covered in greenery or else simply not exist at all.
With the highest standards of quality of life in mind, nothing was left to chance. This is a project tailored for the demanding consumer who appreciates contemporary architectural style, highly rated in the real-estate market and located in a privileged country – the sunniest in Europe – with good weather practically all year round and a people famous for their exceptional hospitality.
The final outcome is a Stimulating, Pioneering and Innovative project.
Unique and Breathtaking!
